Overview
These two assignments allowed me to explore the creative side of social media content creation.
- Assignment 8A focused on creating a digital social media cartoon based on a quote of our choice.
- Assignment 8B involved analyzing images from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock through the lens of contrast, visual hierarchy, and Gestalt principles of grouping, then creating a social media poster incorporating those elements.
Assignment 8A: Digital Social Media Cartoon
Concept & Quote Selection
For this cartoon, I chose the quote:
“The grass isn’t greener on the other side. It’s green where you water it.”
This quote resonated with me deeply, and I wanted my cartoon to visually communicate the message that growth and success depend on personal effort and care, rather than seeking better opportunities elsewhere.

Assignment 8B: Social Media Post Using Visual Design Principles
Concept & Objective
This assignment was about identifying visual design principles (contrast, visual hierarchy, and Gestalt grouping) in UALR campus photography, then using one to create a purpose-driven social media post.
I focused on:
- Furthering education at UALR
- Clear messaging and a call to action
- Strong visual composition
Design Process
- Color Scheme: I chose maroon, black, and white—colors associated with UALR—to create bold contrast and brand alignment.
- Layout & Text:
- I structured the layout with clear visual hierarchy: headline first, followed by supporting text, and then a registration link button.
- The Gestalt grouping image formed the backdrop, reinforcing the sense of community and shared academic goals.
