Assignments 13A & 13B: Color Psychology and Visual Exploration

Assignment 13A: Who I Am Through Color

For this assignment, I began by creating a color palette that felt personally resonant. The resulting selections were:

  • #FFD1DC – Soft Pink
  • #F6EFFD – Light Lilac
  • #CDBFAA – Soft Blue
  • #C1D0B5 – Pale Sage Green
  • #FFF0A7 – Soft Yellow

What These Colors Say About Me

Soft Pink (#FFD1DC):
Represents sensitivity, warmth, and nurturing. This suggests that I am likely compassionate, empathetic, and emotionally aware.

Pale Sage Green (#C1D0B5):
Symbolizes balance, growth, and calm. It reflects a personality that values peace and thoughtful approaches to challenges.

Soft Yellow (#FFF0A7):
Associated with optimism and creativity. This color points to a bright, enthusiastic outlook and a desire to think outside the box.

Light Blue (#D1E7FF):
Communicates calm, clarity, and honesty. I value open communication and emotional stability.

Light Lilac (#F6EFFD):
Connected to intuition, imagination, and sensitivity. It suggests a deeply introspective and creative mindset.

My Unconscious Algorithm

According to my color profile, I have a natural inclination toward harmony, emotional connection, and calm environments. I avoid conflict, prefer depth over drama, and often approach problems with both empathy and creativity. My mind thrives in tranquil, expressive spaces.

SWOT Analysis Based on My Palette

  • Empathetic and compassionate
  • Calm and clear communicator
  • Highly creative and imaginative
  • Emotionally balanced

Weaknesses

  • Over-sensitivity to emotional energy
  • Tendency to avoid conflict
  • Hesitation in risk-taking

Opportunities

  • Growth in healing and wellness spaces
  • Success in creative and communication-driven careers
  • Personal and spiritual development

Threats

  • Emotional burnout from over-caring
  • Indecision caused by overthinking

A Balancing Color

To strengthen my personality profile and support areas of growth, I considered adding:

  • Deep Red – to introduce boldness, confidence, and assertiveness.
  • Teal/Turquoise – to enhance communication and courage in expressing boundaries.

These hues would enrich my soft, calming palette with a touch of strength and clarity, helping me better balance sensitivity with action.

Assignment 13B: Applying Color Concepts to Design

The second assignment asked us to create a design concept using color combinations, ideally based on our 13A palette. However, I initially misunderstood the instructions—I ended up working with the colors from the reference posters instead of building directly from my personal palette.

Despite the confusion, this was still an enjoyable and eye-opening experience. I played with layout, repetition, and the emotional tone of colors to see how different combinations affected the visual impact.

Lessons Learned:

  • Clear instructions matter—but exploration can still yield insight.
  • Even unfamiliar colors can communicate powerful ideas if used thoughtfully.
  • Mistakes often lead to more personal growth than perfect execution.

Critique

Strengths

  • I embraced experimentation even after misunderstanding the brief.
  • I gained confidence in using color to express emotion visually.
  • I developed a stronger intuition for layout and design rhythm.

Weaknesses

  • I didn’t fully apply my personal palette to the designs.
  • I could have created a more intentional narrative in the compositions.
