11B: Blending our brands elements into existing media

Overview

The objective of 11B was to recreate the existing movie posters using elements from our own personal brand. This project aimed to explore how visual storytelling, branding, and identity can be seamlessly integrated into pre-existing media. The main challenge was to reinterpret a known cinematic visual through a new lens—our own brand’s aesthetic and tone—without losing the essence of the original work.

Brand Integration

  • I used my brand’s neutral color palette, including warm greys, soft beige tones, and muted browns.
  • I incorporated custom fonts I regularly use, keeping typography minimal and modern.
  • I stripped away any clutter or overly dramatic elements and replaced them with negative space, balanced composition, and simple yet striking imagery.

Sketches and Concept Development

I began with reviewing my brands typography and color palette to layout ideas. This helped map out where the title, tagline, and key visuals would go.

Poster Design

The final result is a poster that reflects my brand’s identity while paying homage to the original film.

Critique and Reflection

Strengths

  • Consistency: The poster strongly reflects my brand. The color palette, typography, and overall minimalist aesthetic are all cohesive.
  • Creativity: I was able to reinterpret the original film’s message in a manner that is authentic and tru to my brand.
  • Professional Finish: The final design feels polished and could stand alone as an independent piece.

Challenges

  • Conceptual Clarity: The initial hurdle was understanding the assignment’s objective. It took some time to shift my mindset from replication to reinterpretation.
  • Maintaining Film Integrity: While I wanted to apply my brand identity fully, I also needed to keep the film’s core message intact—a delicate balancing act.

Areas for Improvement

  • I could have pushed the conceptual side further, perhaps by integrating more symbolic elements or exploring a less conventional layout.
  • The typography, while clean, could be more dynamic or expressive in future iterations.
